Pennywise
Your money, understood - on your device.
Pennywise reads the financial transaction alerts already landing on your phone and turns them into a simple picture of where your money actually goes: what you spent, who got it, and what is left. Your own list, budgets that hold, and an assistant called Penny that answers like a friend. None of it is uploaded. Ever.

What it does
Everything happens inside the app, on the device in your hand.
Alerts become a list
The financial transaction alerts already in your messages become a clean list of what you spent, who got it, and how much - read on your phone, never sent anywhere.
Statements import too
Have an account statement? Import the PDF straight from your phone. It joins the same list, and anything your alerts already captured is skipped.
Ask Penny
Ask Penny things like "how much did I spend on matatu this week?" It answers from your own records, right there on the phone - no internet needed.
Budgets that hold
Set a budget for food, transport, or whatever you always overspend on, and watch it tick down as money actually moves - not in a surprised review at month end.
Subscriptions, spotted
That once-a-month charge you forgot about? Pennywise notices the repeats and tells you when the next one is due.
Goals you name
Name a goal - rent deposit, December trip - put money against it, and watch it grow from the list that is already on your phone.
How it works
- 1
Allow Pennywise to read your alerts
That is the whole setup. While you do it, nothing is uploaded anywhere.
- 2
Your list fills itself
Each transaction alert becomes a line in your own private list on your phone: money in, money out, bills paid, purchases.
- 3
Make it yours
Sort things into categories, set budgets, catch subscriptions, and name the goals you are saving for.
- 4
Ask Penny
Talk to Penny like a friend who is good with money: "How much did I spend last week?"
A familiar week
You got paid50,000. A week later, it was gone.
A bonus lands: 50,000 KES in your account. A night out, a few "small" transfers here and there, some shopping, a weekend away. By Sunday it is all gone. Here is the strange part: a normal month only costs you about20,000 KES. This one week burned two and a half months of your usual spending, and nobody tapped you on the shoulder to say so.
With Pennywise you would have known by Wednesday - every alert was already in your list the moment it arrived. And halfway through the week you could simply ask Penny:
You ask Penny
"How much have I spent this week?"
"50,000 KES in seven days. Your usual whole month is 20,000. Most of it went to transfers to friends (14,000) and that weekend trip (7,500). Want me to slow down for the rest of the month?"
- Transfers to friends14,000
- Shopping & household9,500
- Going out & takeaway8,000
- Weekend trip7,500
- Matatu & fuel5,500
- Utilities & airtime5,500
Your usual month: 20,000 KES
This week alone = 2.5 months of your normal spending.

Questions
Does any of my financial data leave the phone?
No. Everything happens inside the app - the reading, the budgets, the chats with Penny. There is no account server and nothing tracking you. The one time the app goes online is to download Penny's brain once, over a secure, verified connection.
How does an AI run on my phone?
Penny runs on a small AI model - about a gigabyte - that lives on your phone. It is downloaded once, then it works with no internet at all. Your questions never reach us, because there is nowhere to reach.
Which alerts does it understand?
Any alert that describes a financial transaction: money in, money out, bills paid, purchases - in shillings or dollars. You can also import a statement PDF.
Is there a sign-up or login?
No. There is no account to create. Your data sits in the app on your phone - delete the app and it goes with it.
Which platforms are supported?
Android for now. The part that reads your texts is built for Android phones; iPhone support is something we are still exploring.
Behind the code

Hi! I'm a software engineer who loves building software that actually helps. Pennywise started with a simple annoyance: my own money quietly disappearing with nothing to show for it.
When I'm not coding, you'll probably find me watching anime or taking long, thoughtful walks. I enjoy exploring new technology, sharing ideas, and connecting with communities over my favorite shows and life experiences.
"I just never thought I couldn't."
